Fareham Remembers

"In gratitude for those who serve
and sorrow for those who did not return"

Every year the Fareham branch of the Royal British Legion, supply 3,000 small Remembrance crosses to local people who wish to remember a loved one who did not return from service to our country.

Many of these crosses are placed on graves and War Memorials, scattered across the face of the Earth, by loved ones making a cherished pilgrimage.

In silent tribute to those who will never be forgotten, we are proud to show a few photographs of some of the Memorials where Fareham crosses have been placed, as a reminder of our continuing thanks.

Built on a hillside, just off the Bukit Tima road, this imposing memorial was created just after WW2 by soldiers of the Indial Army whilst waiting repatriation back to India. Kranji originally commemorated all those who served in WW2 and did not return.  It has subsequently been expanded to include victims of the later warfare in the Far East.  Several Fareham Poppies can be seen pinned to the walls of the main memorial and on several of the individual graves.  It is a place of quiet reflection and remembrance away from the intense bustle of the city.

Our Nation honours her sons and daughters who answered the call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met.  A Fareham poppy has been placed in a corner of the garden in memory of those who did not return.

This memorial was originally created to commemorate those who did not return from WW1.  It has now been dedicated to include all those who fell in WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Borneo and later conflicts.  A Fareham poppy has been laid in memory of all who gave their lives.
